The Divine Cafe & Bakery isn’t as colourful or characteristic as some of the other eateries in Rishikesh. The place lacks ambience and feels like a hotel restaurant. What really makes the Divine Cafe & Bakery UNIQUE however, is the sheer number of indulgent cakes it has on offer. And oh boy, the Divine Bakery is LOADED. Take a look now.
1.) The Chocolate Cheesecake
This chocolate cheesecake was my first foray into the variety of indulgences on offer at the Divine Cafe & Bakery. Chocolate cheesecake usually disappoints me because its crumbly biscuity base is usually ruined by chocolate overkill. Instead of getting a sweet and slightly salty biscuit base contrasting with the sweetness of the cream-cheese above, you just get chocolate cream-cheese with chocolate biscuit – it’s boring and sickly. But while this chocolate cheesecake has the richness of any other, it keeps the plain biscuit base of your standard cheesecake, making a tasty contrast with the indulgent chocolate above. And for this reason it was the most enjoyable chocolate cheesecake I’ve ever had! The Divine Cafe & Bakery won me over with this first tasty treat.
Oh, and the latte was on the strong side compared to your average latte. And that’s a good thing. (For me anyway).
2.) The Blueberry cheesecake
Coming right up with number 2 on our list of indulgent cakes at Divine Cafe & Bakery. It’s another cheesecake. This one blueberry. It’s not as amazingly unique as the chocolate cheesecake, but it’s still damn delicious, especially with all those jammy blueberries on top. If you’re looking for a more refreshing cake, this one should be your top choice.
3.) The Red Velvet Cake
On my third trip to the Divine Cafe & Bakery I urged myself to try something slightly different. A chocolate truffle pastry beckoned to me, but I opted to try the red velvet cake instead. This was a mistake. While the cake had a good deal of luscious cream, the sponge was too dry. It was a decent cake by all means, but not on the same playing field as the two cheesecakes. Had I not been equipped with my accompanying latte the Red Velvet cake would have been even less enjoyable.
4.) The Chocolate Hazelnut Pastry
On my final visit to the Divine Cafe & Bakery in Rishikesh, I went straight for the chocolate hazelnut pastry, as I’d been salivating over this chunk of sickly, mouthwatering delight for quite some time. I was not disappointed. The chocolate hazelnut pastry is rich, creamy, chocolatey and ever so slightly sickly, without being too much if you know what I mean. It tasted like a really good chocolate truffle cake.
WHAT ELSE?
There are many more sweet treats to try out at the Divine Cafe & Bakery in Rishikesh. If you like a good cake with your coffee, OR a good coffee with your cake; or if you like a peaceful place to work with spacious tables (and plug sockets towards the front of the cafe). If you need a break from the other more crowded and colourful laid-back cafes of Rishikesh, well, I implore you get yourself to the Divine Cafe & Bakery and get your mouth around one (or many) of their indulgent cakes…
